1. How can we increase awareness about the significant rise in prescription medication addiction and overdose?

I believe that education is key and it is imperative that professional bodies and university medical faculties deliver mandatory ongoing education and training, focusing on best practice benzodiazepine and opioid analgesic prescribing and management.

Training should be updated regularly to provide a level of competency standards required of doctors and other prescribing health professionals to practise.

More importantly, training should include the importance of software tools such as Real Time Prescription Monitoring, DrShop to help identify patients dealing with prescription medication addition. DrShop provides transparency around a patient’s prescription history, which can lead to life and death consequences.

2. What does International Overdose Awareness Day mean to you as an employee of MediSecure?

I am extremely proud to work for a company that is making a difference.  MediSecure acts as a responsible corporate citizen by delivering solutions for the new health ecosystem in preventing further prescription medication addiction and overdose.

As an extension of electronic prescriptions our revolutionary technology, DrShop Australia's first Real Time Prescription Monitoring system is central for supporting doctors to manage the quality use of medicines and patient safety.
